Remixed 12-16 Feb 1979 by Al Schmitt at Capitol Records Studio, Hollywood. First released in USA on May 30th, then in Japan 25 July.
Features a different cover than the original Japanese LP.
"The original 1978 release of the first album didn't even chart in Japan.
It was only after the US tour and after the US mix of the first album was being released in the US
and after all the attention it got in Japan and after the US mix was also released in Japan,
that the US remix started to sell relatively well in Japan: it reached #20 in the Japanese album charts,
selling 250,000 copies in Japan.
The big success in Japan only started with the album Solid State Survivor, which went to #1 and sold over one million copies in Japan."

15 Oct (?) 1980 | commercial music (+ various artists LP/MC) | Jiseiki - hirake kokoro |
This noisy song was originally recorded in 1980 for a Fuji cassette commercial.
The History section of a Japanese YMO fan site (http://mmw4.web.fc2.com/dbymo/history1980.html)
as well as this site http://web.archive.org/web/20080321145818/http://www.interq.or.jp/yellow/ftm710/ymo/ealry/1980_10.htm
say that the FUJI CASSETTE 'TECHNOPOLIS 25 o'clock' commercial went on air 15 October 1980.
Credits for 'Jiseiki - hirake kokoro -' (a 1980 Fuji CF song) are: words: Haruomi Hosono. Composed [=music written by] Ryuichi Sakamoto & Yukihiro Takahashi.
Arranged: Y.M.O. + Kenji Omura. Haruomi Hosono: keyboards. Ryuichi Sakamoto: keyboards. Yukihiro Takahashi: drums. Kenji Omura: guitar.
Hideki Matsutake: computer programmer.
It's first release on record was in mono on 21 Feb 1981 on the Snakeman LP "ISOIDE KUCHI DE SUE!".
Interestingly, the song INAUDIBLE on Kenji Ômura's album HARU HA IPPAI (aka SPRING IS NEARLY HERE),
which was released on the same day as the Snakeman Show album, is very similar to the song Jiseiki - Hirake Kokoro.
Jiseiki - hirake kokoro was re-issued several times later on on various YMO compilations, both in mono and in stereo.
Its first appearance in stereo was on the live 3-LP set YMO WORLD TOUR 1980 (22 May 1996).
It's first digital/CD release was on 25 Jan 1999 in the YMO GIGA CAPSULE Box Set.
The commercial video is on the DVD "Visual YMO: the Best".
21 Oct 1980 | LP | SHEENA & THE ROKKETS: CHANNEL GOOD |
- Ukabi no Peach Girl 2.41 (LP: ALR-28005)
YMO are the backing band on the song, so it's actually a YMO track with Sheena on vocals.
Music & arrangement by YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA, words by SHIGESATO ITOI. Produced by HARUOMI HOSONO & YUKIHIRO TAKAHASHI.
YUKIHIRO TAKAHASHI: drums, chorus. RYÛICHI SAKAMOTO: synthesizers. HARUOMI HOSONO: keyboards, bass.
Note: A new recording of this song was released on Sheena's solo album Beautiful (16 Dec 1982).
Hosono and Takahashi are playing on the album, which is produced by Hosono, but it's unclear if any of them is playing on this particular song.

Recorded early 1981. 'BGM' is an ironic abbreviation for 'Background Music'.
Paul Rymer commented on the track Happy End (https://www.discogs.com/YMO-BGM/master/45062) "There are 4 different versions of the track "Happy End" -
1) LP version appears on vinyl pressings from Japan, the UK, Europe plus all CDs from the Toshiba-EMI release in 1999 onwards (this is by far the most common version).
2) US LP version - slightly different version on US pressings of the album.
3) Alfa CD version - this is on all Alfa released CDs from 1984 to 1998 - it has a different middle section with much of the mettalic synth omitted until it suddenly drops back in.
Sounds like an alternate take. This also appears on the Restless CD releases (NOTE this is an amendment,
I was told that the Restless CD had the proper LP mix but upon getting the US and European CDs I discovered they use the same master as the Alfa CDs).
4) Sakamoto solo version, using the same basic track but with additional synth overdubs - this was the b-side to his single "Front Line" in 1981 and is included on the Alfa "Arrangement" CD."

25 April 1984 | VHD/LD (+ DVD) | A Y.M.O. FILM: PROPAGANDA |
- Propaganda 5.32
- M16 4.10 (VHD: VHM 78001; laser disc: G78M 0009; DVD 18 July 2001: PCBA-50052)
A rather strange "film" based around live footage from the concerts on 12 & 13 Dec 1983 at Nippon Budokan,
with some newly shot "scenes" inserted in between the live footage (see same entry in my "YMO video" discography for more detailed info).
The film features two newly recorded studio tracks (which is why I include it here in my "YMO studio" discography):
"Propaganda, which is basically only some background music without melody or a real rhythm, used as an intro to the film,
and the rather beautiful 'M16' which is used as end theme (it sounds to me like a solo performance by Sakamoto
but it was composed by all three Y.M.O. members) (M16 was recorded on 10th February 1984).
"Propaganda" was included on the CD "¥en Years" in the CD box "¥EN BOX VOL. 2" that came out 18 Dec 1996,

(Toshiba EMI TOCT-24231~24232; reissue 2-CD 21 March 2007: MHCL 1043~1044)
The two previously unreleased acoustic songs were recorded with a mandolin (Sakamoto) and two acoustic guitars (Hosono & Takahashi)
in the studio for playback at a show 23 April 1980 in Tokyo on the occasion of the launch of the first issue of the SHAGAKU magazine.
Apparently they were playback so that YMO were free to do some sort of theatrical act (or sketch or parody) on stage.
A third acoustic track (Green Back Doller) was included on the live 2005 CD "ONE MORE YMO" but as a "real" live track with audience noise etc
(although that, too, was performed as playback).
