"The Art Of Noise facebook 28 July 2023.
Today, from a distant corner of The Art Of Noise universe:
Art And ACT present 'Life's A Barrel of Laughs', a new digital edition of the Horn/Morley companion piece to Dudley/Jeczalik/Langan's 'Legs'.

Originally recorded in 1985, this is the post '(Who's Afraid Of?) The Art Of Noise' project that evolved at Zang Tuum Tumb after Anne Dudley, JJ Jeczalik and Gary Langan jumped ship to China Records. It's released today - with two of its five tracks only previously available on vinyl - as part of 40 weekly digital editions to mark the 40th anniversary of ZTT Records.

These recordings were first mentioned in both Smash Hits and Sounds magazines in October 1985, the latter writing about AoN's split from ZTT and explaining:
"The grandiose raiding of the 20th Century is, however, not to cease. The deadly duo (of Horn & Morley) are to be joined by one SJ Lipson 'for the purpose of record releases'
and the name of the group 'for handling reasons' will become Art And ACT, or alternately a.a.a. Their first single 'Life’s A Barrel Of Laughs' will be recorded during November and December,
its release to be accompanied by a pamphlet entitled 'A Decent Way'." But there was just one problem, the recordings were never actually released.

1991 did see a mention of them in the Outside World zine, in an article entitled 'What's In The ZTT Vaults?'

But it wasn't until the 2010 compilation '(The Art of Noise) Influence' when two takes of 'This Is Your Life' (the track's working title) appeared on its 'Unreleased Experiments' disc. The full main 12" version then appeared a year later as part of The Art of the 12" series, 'Volume 1 - A Celebration of the Extended Remix'.
Cut forward to 2019 and these three tracks were joined by 'Yes Or No?', two pieces from the same Horn/Morley project, when they were known as Studio, to complete a fourth disc in the hitherto vinyl-only box set, '(The Art of Noise are) Daft as a Brush!'
And now finally, 38 years after it was first announced, 'Life's A Barrel of Laughs' is available on all digital platforms.
It's the decent way."
