NAKED EYES

- Discography for 1982-1984 -

1 Sep 1982 UK 7"/12" Always Something There To Remind Me [Byrne/Fisher photo cover]

Always Something There To Remind Me 3.39 [Original Tony Mansfield Single Version - Church bell/chimes intro] / Pit Stop 3.32 (7": EMI 5334)

Always Something There To Remind Me [Extended Tony Mansfield Version- Church bell/chimes intro] / Pit Stop [3.32] (12": 12 EMI 5334)

There are two different single versions: this original one produced in 1982 by Tony Mansfield, which starts with a bombastic church bell/chimes intro, and one remixed in 1983 by Jellybean, which starts with a short, fast "Simmon synth drum" pattern created by Jellybean. Apart from that they both sound pretty similar. Both versions were used on various LP vinyl pressings in 1983, and on the CD reissues and compilations. This original 1982 extended Version is only available on CD on a very rare Canadian various artists CD from 1992 "HARDEST HITS 2" (SPG Music, SPG-002).

April 1983 US LP/MC (+ CD 2018) NAKED EYES

  2. Fortune and Fame 3.16
  3. When the Lights Go Out 3.01
  4. Voices in My Head 3.46
  5. Low Life 3.51

The US vinyl LP features only 10 of the 12 UK LP tracks, omitting "A Very Hard Act To Follow" and "The Time Is Now". Also, "Promises, Promises" was reworked. Pete Byrne told me: "The English version of Promises Promises was felt to be too long for a single, so it was re-cut for the USA. The verse referring to a "cup of tea" was considered too "Limey" by the "Yanks" so a new verse was written, which actually improved the song. (Thank you, Bob Curry.)"

Pete Byrne told me: "A change in personnel at the label led to people making decisions that ultimately broke up the band. I had recently married an American girl and was spending most of my time in Los Angeles. Rob was in London and our Management in New York. Record Company A&R people live and die by the bands they sign and when they are fired or given new positions (Head of creative metamorphosis, etc.) the bands they signed are left to fend for themselves. EMI released one single with little promotion and that was that. After this, Rob joined Simon Climie in Climie Fisher. I hung out in LA, doing session work with Stevie Wonder (you can hear me on "Part time Lover") writing and recording with Stevie's Producer Gary Olazabal, and his Keyboard player Brad Buxer. Actually there's a lot of material from this period which I'll be making available some time soon."

Arthur Baker also did an extended version of Sacrifice, which was planned as the second single, but it was not released until 2002.
