This is a Swedish version of the Cosmic Overdose track "Romantic" from 1981. TAM just replaced the English vocals with new Swedish vocals, during the recording sessions for MUSIC FOR GIRLS. It was made especielly for the Swedish radio programme "Eldorado" and played there 11 May 1982.

Dan Söderqvist, Karl Gasleben, Jocke Söderqvist. This LP was recorded in late 1983 and was originally planned to be released in January 1984 on the Dutch Roadrunner label as a follow-up to "Observation from a Borderland", but the label chose not to release it ("too little hit music") so TAM released it themselves on their own label. "Here She Comes" was actually recorded to please Roadrunner - TAM did not really think it was "their style", but in the end they had to include it anyway as there was no money left to record another song to replace it.

"Sorrow" was first released in 1983 on THE SOUND OF A GOAT IN A ROOM, but this is a new version, of which a shorter version was released on the 1988 CD-compilation COLLECTION OF STONES - SELECTED WORKS 1982-87. "Only Relief" was included as an extra track on the CD version of the 1985 LP SLOW SWIRL (but with added "vinyl crackle" sounds).

"Invited from the association "Center for Studies of Whales and Dolphins", Söderqvist-Gasleben made "In the Eye of the Whale" as part of an exhibition. This exhibition was shown in the Culturehouse of Stockholm during the autumn 1984."

TAM fb 13 Jan 2023: "The song 'Across the Ocean' is an appeal to care for life in the sea. We were invited by the association 'Center for Studies of Whales and Dolphins to contribute to an exhibition at Kulturhuset in Stockholm in 1984, which led to the composition of 'In the Eye of the Whale'. We went on to produce 3 songs out of this material. One of them, 'Across the Ocean', was remixed and released on a 12" single. This is one of the first examples on how to use sampled natural sounds in music, because on 'Across the Ocean', the bass is played on the sounds of a humpback whale."

All tracks composed, performed and produced by Dan Söderqvist, Karl Gasleben and Jocke Söderqvist 1983-85. 3, 4 and 11 co-produced with Mikael Fölsch. "Divided Light" was actually recorded for FROM A NORTHERN SHORE but TAM was not happy with the mixing and there was no time to finish it at the time so they finished it for SLOW SWIRL instead. On the CD version, there is vinyl crack sound at the end of track 10 and the beginning of track 11 - the background story is this: the original master tape for "Only Relief" could not be found, so TAM had to use a vinyl record, and while having it digitally transferred, they decided to keep some of the vinyl noise for nostalgic reasons. They then decided to keep the vinyl noise going for a short while after the song had ended and into the beginning of the final track "Japanese Letters - this was entirely an added "art effect" as that track was mastered from an old tape and contained no vinyl noise.

Dan skickade mig denna info om "Works on Yellow" 27 Oct 2021: "Works on Yellow är producerad och utgiven av vårt egna bolag Xenophone International. Vi har alltså själva gjort hela produktionen inklusive trycksaker. Den engelska LPn tog den svenska rätt av. Ingemar (Gasleben) och jag var över i England och förhandlade fram en deal. Vårt tyska bolag bytte ut 'Details' mot 'Back on Venus', plus att de la om låtordningen. De har ju dessutom gjort ett annat omslag + då gul vinyl. Jag tror de helt enkelt ville optimera plattans kommersiella potential."

Recorded 1985. Included as an extra track on the CD version of the 1985 LP SLOW SWIRL. Dan skickade mig denna info om "Plan F" 27 Oct 2021: "Plan F låter som en bra demo. Lite osäker på när den spelades in, (man borde fört loggbok/dagbok) men absolut någon gång höst 85/vår 86, tror på senhösten -85, troligen runt inspelningarna av Works on Yellow, då ljudbilden är typisk med Emulator 2an. Även texttemat är från tiden med melankoli under en skilsmässa. Finns en låt till, Northern Light, som är ännu mera personlig, närmast privat, från denna tiden, den blev aldrig utgiven eller riktigt färdig. Att Plan F kom med på Slow Swirl CD-n är att det blev uppsamling med bra bonuslåtar som inte kom med på varken vinyler eller senare CD på Northern Shore/Slow Swirl/Works On Yellow."

Dan skickade mig denna info om Cloud Sky Damage 26 Oct 2021: "Version 1 är en försmak av Driftwood; den skiljer ju sig från version 2 och 3 rätt rejält, mer ambient etc. Delar av texten återfinns också i 'Stone and Moor' på Driftwood. Cloud Sky Damage bygger dock mycket på gitarr, och gitarr används inte på Driftwood som bygger på scenversionen. Att Driftwood skulle bli utan gitarr var ett senare beslut. ... Jag tror att alla [tre] versioner gjordes samtidigt, troligen 1987. Det var i en period efter Works on Yellow, då vi famlade efter ett delvis nytt sound. Vi gjorde Aqua Marine Drum i slutet på 1986, och vi gjorde spelningar 1987 där de nya låtarna Black Flowers och Cloud Sky Damage (V3) ingick. Jag var väldigt förtjust i låten [Cloud Sky Damage] och den funkade mycket bra live. Tror att det var så att vi inte visste var låten passade in."

"Sweden is cold and dark during winters. This year the snow stayed for many months. Twice a mans new album is named Icicles, reflecting on the enviroment that surround, but also a theme that correspond to a frosty lonelyness of the heart. It´s an album of wonderings, worries, longing, confusion, heartbreak... an autobiographical journey into the mysterious landscape called Love, with all it´s expectations of fulfilling our lives and our romantic dreams. It´s not always so; the happy glimpses we sometimes feel turn often into melancholy, even despair. Hope and faith falter. At those times it´s a comfort to look upon the quiet moon and try to make beauty through music, pictures, words... with hope to get closer to the ever returning light.

Icicles may sound as a gloomy concept, but the music is not as ambient as the two songalbums from the last decade or as experimental as their 90´s instrumental work. Icicles has more in common with Twice a mans 80´s productions. We are looking back to our roots in dark wave electronic pop, not without a smile and a wink to the younger men in their suits :) How much has really happened since those days thirty years ago? At least, Love stays the same.

Icicles is made during the two past years. It includes a remake of the never released song Where are you now, made in -91. All songs are written by Twice a man, with the exception of the songs Wandering, where the text is by the american artist Mach Feedback and Tranquil moonlit lake (for Virginia Woolf), a musical collaboration with the japanese artist Linda Bjalla. Icicles is made in collaboration with Daniel Kaufeldt, who co-produced, mixed and mastered."

Twice a man made music and sounddesign for Volume 2, "Ljuset kommer från Halmstad". Its in Swedish and contains texts from two authors born in Halland, Fredrik Ström and Klara Johansson. The release will be during the Bookfair in Gothenburg in late September."
