1978 demo tape [untitled]

Midge Ure: instruments, Rusty Egan: percussion, Steve Strange: vocals. 'In the Year 2525' & 'The Eve of Destruction' are both covers, while 'All the King's Horses' was written by Strange/Ure/Egan. They were played frequently at the time in Steve's club, and were also sent to various record companies to secure a record deal. 'In the Year 2525' was released in 1983 on FADE TO GREY - THE SINGLES COLLECTION, but the other two have never been released officially.

Steve Strange: vocals, Midge Ure: guitar, Rusty Egan: drums/saxophone, Billy Currie: keyboards, John McGeogh: guitar, Dave Formula: keyboards, Barry Adamson: bass. Both tracks written by all. Tar sounds identical to the LP version apart from the fact that the saxophone solo continues umtil the song fades out. According to Steve in his autobiographical book, the VISAGE LP was recorded right after this first single, but its release was delayed because the Radar label folded and they had to look for a new record company.

Rubellan about the forthcoming CD reissue: "The One Way CD is very thin and awful. When comparing to the original tape transfers, it's clear that CD used excessive noise reduction and completely flattened the detail out. Cherry Red just used the One Way CD and then tacked on vinyl transfers for some of the bonus tracks. This is the first time I've ever been able to hear the album with all the little details, and it's coming out wonderfully."

Looks real but with today’s technology it’s easy to copy old labels and make them look authentic." A reply from 23 April 2020: "This is an official release. I got my clear Vinyl from Polydor directly."

The general sound quality is good. The booklet is alright, two pages of info ("the story") plus some photos. As usual my fingers leave an eternal mark on the black booklet, I hate that. The BBC version of The Anvil sounded a lot like to album version to me, but then again I only listened to it once and there are so many "original" versions of it that I get lost comparing it. The BBC version of Can You Hear Me is not too different but at least I don't have to listen to that dreadful saxophone (who came up with the idea to mix synthesizer music with saxophone?!). So, just this track alone is worth the price of the CD if you ask me. A strange thing is that there are no dates at all for the BBC versions in the booklet, not even the year. It just says BBC (c) 2008 (!).
